Am already ruing the missed chances of an extended vac

It’s just a few days since I returned from home n I am already regretting my decision of not having bunked a few weeks of coll. There is virtually no class that is gonna be held this week with maths being an exception as always. Anyways don’t mind maths since proxies in that class are as easy as finding an Indian idiot getting paid millions for some silly job in America. I seriously don’t find any reason why I shouldn’t have bunked a few weeks but everything said the fact is that even if we have just a class everyday as we are, I am back in coll n have to stay here. The rest as they say is history.

The 10 days at home was gr8 as it always is. The first few days were hectic with a lot of travelling to do and a trip to Mannargudi (a place 40kms away from my residence where my cousin resides) and a trip to my native were the main objectives of that journey but there were a few more diversions to take on the way. When I was in Mannargudi I had spoken to a cousin who had just joined her B.Tech(C Sc) course in Panimalar Engg College, Chennai. She told me about the schedule they had to follow n about the rules in her college and let me tell you I didn’t have to follow as many rules even in my school hostels right from my 1st std. Anyways my best wishes to my cousin Uma and God save her. Then my bike did the rounds for the next few days n it also did a few visits to the theatres. But none of the movies I watched deserve mention so forget that. And a visit to SASTRA rounded off an equally good 10 days at home. I did meet my friends at SASTRA and had a good chat.

And now for some serious issues the frequent power cuts in Tamil Nadu are the talk of the town. And guess what from the last week onwards the news is that there will be power cuts for 5hrs in Chennai and 6.5hrs in the rest of Tamil Nadu. The times I have mentioned are not per week but per day!! I was fortunate that since my residence was in the most active part of the city we had no power cuts. Just a few houses along with mine were spared from the darkness. This acute shortage in power has made the condition of the people in Tamil Nadu pathetic. Life was seriously taking a turn through hell for people in Tamil Nadu. It is very common to see people praying to god to “bring light into their live or to make their lives bright” but this time god for a change seriously bring “LIGHT” into their lives.

Laziness is a virtue

It seems like just a few months back I joined coll n guess what... more than 1 yr has gone by!! The First one yr in coll was a story of not so many ups n downs. And to be honest about ragging there is hardly any traces of ragging that remain in our coll n we guys (the Tamil guys a.k.a MADDUS which is how the Tamil guys r referred to here) weren’t even given a taste of tat n guess wat we guys actually don’t have any juniors (I mean from Tamil nadu) to rag tooL. We didn’t rag or get ragged. What bad luck. But actually I am not a big fan of ragging so it’s alright for me. N hence this chapter of ragging in my coll life has come to an end even b4 it could start.

Almost two months of our 3rd sem is over n I am beginning to get a good feel of how the mechanical dept of NIT Rourkela functions. There will be no shortage for lazy students in any coll and our coll is no exception. But our coll is different by the fact that the laziest among the lot are the Profs. Now hows that for a change. You’ll understand that clearly if u read what I’ve written below.

This was an incident which took place just a few days back. Our classes, if at all we have one, are supposed to go on in the second floor. We have a subject called “kinematics and dynamic machines”. The professor who teaches that subject actually is pretty satisfied with giving just a few guest appearances a month!! Last Monday Darun and myself were on our way to the canteen n on the way we saw this Prof Waiting outside the lift for it to come. Fortunately (soon you’ll come to know why) the lift wasn’t functioning properly that day and when that prof realized this we thought he would take the staircase and get to the class. But instead to our surprise this prof was so lazy that since the lift wasn’t working he decided to suspend the class instead of climbing up two floors to take class...I am sure many of you people don’t understand that laziness is a virtue. In fact in the Linux community laziness is acknowledged and valued above even eagerness and interest. And we the people here at NIT-Rourkela acknowledge this fact, especially that prof.

Anyway I seriously thank god for understanding my needs n sending such a prof to take my class... so what else... my midsem exams are supposed to get underway this Thursday. Presently the more important thing on my agenda is to catch the Dhanbad-allepey express on September 30th (next Thursday) and get back home. Anyways even if the exam isn’t that important, it still does remain somewhere down the order on my agenda and that means I gotta start studying at least now if I want my B.Tech degree... So bye for now

my AWESOME results...nt sarcastic...very serious

Then we had planned for a trip to Bangalore which started as scheduled on may 12th but the surprise came when we were in the train that the results would be out on may 14th… we were In wonderla on may 14th and we came to know our results only from there…. We would have been one of the very few n lucky who knew the results while chilling out at a theme park...

Then came the biggest surprise when the AIEEE results came and I was the top ranker in that from my school (actually only two qualified for the counselling one being me)... actually I did have some hopes because I knew that I had done well and my expectations usually are correct as was the case in my 10th,12th and now here. now dont ask how… It was something I could be proud of always because firstly I had made it with absolutely no preparation and that too while competing with people who had one years preparation under their belts and secondly because I had fared much better than people who were in the same situation as me…

I attended the counselling and I had been allotted chemical engg at NIT-Rourkela. I came here to enrol myself but after seeing Rourkela I decided that I am not going to spend my college life here because I knew life at Chennai would be much more gr8… so I decided to attend the counselling at Anna univ also where I had been allotted an electrical and electronics engg seat at Sri Venkateswara College of engg, Chennai.. My mom agreed to put me there and I was really looking forward to my college life...

I was supposed to come to Rourkela again to get my tc and we decided to come on aug 6th....then came that phone call which turned my life on its head, when I spoke to the Tamil guys over here I came to know that I had been slided to mechanical egg which was a really tempting offer… I just thought for a while and then decided that I would be digging my own grave if I abandoned the seat at NIT… so instead of coming here to get my tc I came here to begin my coll life…wat a turn around!!!

Only after a week or two at NIT I realized it wasn’t a bad place after all…. If we take life as a learning experience we can turn any negative into a positive…

A very rare school life(12 yrs in hostel)

Here I am…. With my first post on the blog(actually 9 months after I opened it!!!..i guess u must be thinkin wat a hopeless guy this is bt am not tat hopeless). and what an occasion to post it-3rd august 2008 FRIENDSHIP DAY….yea HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY.

Let me first introduce myself....Senthil nathan aged 18yrs and 259 days from tanjore (but hardly have i spent any of my life there) n presently doing my B.Tech in mechanical engg at NIT,Rourkela.

Now let me give a short note on my journey from GSIS to NIT and the first year in this coll…..

I know ull be thinking whats this GSIS... it stands for Good Shepherd International School, ooty. That’s the school which has developed me into the person I am today. I joined there when I was just 6 and passed out when I was 16. I have spent more than half my life so far over there and it was worth it I still remember the days when I used to be homesick and get up at night 12 n start crying and those wardens would come and console me and put me to sleep. It all would sound funny now but then it’s natural at that age right. It all stopped by the time I was around 8. Then slowly I learned to stay away from home. Time passed and I learned a lot of stuff and most of my habits now were developed from those days only.

Then I had passed my ICSE exams and scored 85% and then I had taken my first step into a place which has given me some of my most dear memories and I’ll tell you those were the best days of my life so far…. I am sure it will always be…but I didn’t know it would be at that time. I had joined Jeevana School only due to the IIT-JEE coaching and the objective soon changed. My first frens there were bharat, anand, pranesh and a few more whom probably were not so permanent visitors in my life thereafter. But those three names I mentioned there have really helped me a lot and tat too at some really difficult circumstances.

Then came an imp moment in my life courtesy some help from yoganand. Actually yoganand had planned to change his cell n he asked me if I wanted it and I agreed to buy it but due to a series of events my mom decided to buy me a new cell itself and in the first week of nov2005 I got my first cell.

It won’t be right if I don’t mention the hostelites who had been with me for two yrs n bared with me whatever I did whether good or bad. First of all Akbar Fazil sorry sorry PJ Akbar Fazil yeah that’s the way your supposed to say it ok atleast that’s the way we say it. An awesome character and the perfect amalgam of academics hard work sports n off course friendship… and then off course P Bharat... we used to tease him all the time but still he rarely would get angry and would always save us from our warden (who trusted him n deservedly so). Then there was Prasad who would accompany me to most of the places we escape from the hostel.

I did have a great time in that place n then we had our +2 exams which I managed to clear with some relative ease. Then we were scheduled to have a months intensive coaching for the entrance exams which turned out to be the best days there. Manoj,Boss,Prasad and myself would bunk more than half the classes and freak out. There was a long....... vacation..

There ends my schooling..one of the rarest you can find which had 12 years of hostel life.... many people crave to have the experience of spendin a few years of school life in hostel but here is a guy who has no experience of goin to school in the morning frm home.. yes not even once has my mom said “come straight bak to home after school !!
